Gaither Music Pond Dredging
Bill and Gloria Gaither had a severe problem with sediment build up in a pond on their property. They consulted with a number of contractors only to find out the project was going to cost too much, make an enormous mess and require that the pond be drained. The pond is home to several rare black swans which the Gaithers are very fond of and they definitely did not want to loose them or any other wildlife for that matter.
Heartland dredging was able to remove the sediment without draining the pond and preserve the wildlife for a lower cost than the other contractors with conventional equipment.
The challenge for us was finding a disposal location. The pond needed more than 7,000 cy of material removed and that required a pretty large area for geotextile tubes. The only acceptable location was a vacant lot over 4,000 feet away. The long distance required the use of a booster station in the line to allow
the material to flow at a reasonable velocity. We used a total of (7) 100 ft x 30 ft geotextile tubes on the project and we were able to achieve a material reduction factor of approximately 2:1. Once the material was fully dewatered we were able to cut open the tubes and spread the material uniformly and incorporate all into the surrounding slopes and no material needed to be trucked away.
